Wartek - Wartec
podophyllotoxin
Wartek is useful for warts that are formed outside the genital area. The drug inactivates the wart and causes it to peel off eventually.
Drug Action
Wartek acts by stopping the multiplication of the virus, as it is a metaphase inhibitor, which results in the growth of healthy tissues.
Drug Application
Wartek cream is applied directly over the genital warts, twice every day for 3 consecutive days followed by 4days without the cream application. The cycle is repeated as long as required. The affected area of the skin should be washed thoroughly with mild soap after which the cream has to be applied. The cream also should not be washed away but left to dry.
Most patients will require 30 loops for each application; however, in critical conditions some patients might require 50 loops per application. Treatment is limited to 10cms area and no more than 0.5 ml of the solution should be used.
Wartek Side Effects
Some of the side effects of Wartek include local skin irritations on the second or third day of cream application due to necrosis of the wart. In most of the cases, the reaction is mild and wanes in the due course.
Drug Precautions
Wartek is a powerful vesicant and has to be used as advised by the physician. Wartek is meant for topical application only and has to be flushed with water if it comes in contact with eyes, nose or mouth. In case of accidental spillage on healthy skin, the cream has to be wiped away immediately and washed with soap and water. The solution should not be applied over open cuts or wounds and treatment for more than 10cms is not recommended.
