This medication is used in men who do not make enough of a natural substance called testosterone. In males, testosterone is responsible for many normal functions, including growth and development of the genitals, muscles, and bones. It also helps cause normal sexual development (puberty) in boys. Testosterone belongs to a class of drugs known as androgens. It works by affecting many body systems so that the body can develop and function normally.
Like many steroids, Testosterone Cypionate can have adverse side effects such as decreased ejaculation volume, which returns to normal after stopping intake of the drug. The steroid is injected into the muscle tissue and releases slowly over time, so side effects may not subside immediately – but after the Testosterone Cypionate is completely eliminated from your body.
Testosterone Cypionate may cause stomach upset, headache, and acne. These effects should disappear as your body adjusts to the medication. Other side effects may include increased hair growth on the face and body, male pattern baldness, change in sex drive, anxiety, depression and pain or inflammation at the injection site. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects when it is used at normal doses.
Prolonged use of high doses of androgens (principally the 17- alkyl-androgens) has been associated with development of hepatic adenomas, hepatocellular carcinoma, and peliosis hepatis all potentially life-threatening complications.
