Side effects of too high and too low thyroid levels

Maintaining thyroid health is essential for the proper functioning of other organs in the body. At the same time, any medicine you take is bound to have side effects, which can be potentially dangerous in this case if the dosage is higher than what is required. This is the main reason why prescription medicines are sold only under a doctor’s written permission and have to be monitored.

Side effects typically occur when the Thyroid dosage is too high. Too much Thyroid causes symptoms of an overactive thyroid (known medically as hyperthyroidism). These symptoms can be dangerous, and any of these symptoms should be reported to your healthcare provider, as they may signal that your dosage needs to be decreased.

Symptoms of low thyroid levels include fatigue, muscle aches, constipation, dry skin, weight gain, slow heart rate, sensitivity to cold, or dry brittle hair that tends to fall out easily. These symptoms should disappear as your body adjusts to the medication. If they persist or become bothersome, inform your doctor.

Symptoms of high thyroid levels include headache, chest pain, rapid or irregular heartbeat, shortness of breath, trembling, sweating, diarrhea, weight loss. If you experience any of these effects, contact your doctor. Your dose may need to be adjusted. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
