Muscoril is a muscle relaxing drug, which has anti inflammatory and analgesic properties. Muscoril caps are useful for the treatment of conditions like,
- Muscular spasms
- Rheumatologic, orthopedic, and traumatologic disorders
Muscoril is known to react with gamma-amino butyric acid termed as GABA type A receptors. Thiocolchicoside is a glycoside that is extracted from the seeds of Colchicum autumnale. Muscoril caps has muscle relaxant, anti-inflammatory, analgesic and anesthetic properties with no or minimal side effects. Thiocolchicoside (TCC) is used for its muscle relaxing, anti-inflammatory, and analgesic properties.
Drug Action
The drug acts by working on the central nervous system and mask the pain thereby allowing the body to heal by itself. TCC works on the brain, and works by reducing the ability of the brain to sense pains and aches. The drug blocks the pain sensation that your nerves send to the brain at the time of pain. TCC is a semi synthetic derivative of a naturally occurring compound colchicoside, and it offers a relaxing effect on the skeletal muscles. The drug is used for treating muscular contractions or lumbago.
Drug Administration
The recommended dosage of Muscoril caps is 800mg on the first day and then it is gradually increased to 12 to 16 mg per day. It is recommended that 8mg should not be exceeded per day. Muscoril should be taken in full stomach. In case of severe pains, not more than 2 capsules should be administered per day.
Muscoril Caps Side Effects
Some of the side effects of Muscoril caps include,
- Dizziness
- Upset stomach
- Vomiting
- Tingling sensation in the arms, legs, hands and feet
- Dry mouth
- Increased muscular spasms
These side effects are known to wane in the due course. However, if the side effects persist for a long period, it is recommended to contact the doctor.
