Movatec is used for relieving from tenderness, pain, inflammation and swelling caused by arthritis. Movatec decreases the production of prostaglandins thus exhibiting anti inflammatory properties. The non steroidal, anti inflammatory drug Movatec also exhibits analgesic and antipyretic properties.
Drug Mechanism of Action
Movatec mechanism of action is related with the inhibition of prostaglandin synthetase enzyme that produces the prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are the chemicals that are produced in the body in response to wound, pain, etc. By blocking the enzyme that produces the chemicals, Movatec, indirectly stops the symptoms of inflammation and other accompanying symptoms.
Drug Administration
It is advisable to take the lowest dose for preventing any unwanted side effects. 7.5mg of Movatec is initially given to the patient. Some patients however, require 15 mg daily but the dosage amount should be altered only upon the advice of the physician. The patient should administer exactly the same amount as directed by the physician.
Missed Dose
In case if you happen to miss a dose, do not have both the doses together. If the dosage clashes, it is better to avoid the previous dose and continue with the current dose. It is also better to consult your physician in case of any doubts regarding the dosage amount.
Movatec Side effects
Some of the side effects of Movatec include:
- Diarrhea
- Constipation
- Gas
- Sore throat
- Cough
- Running nose
Drug Overdose
It is recommended to seek medical assistance once you see over dose symptoms. Over dose symptoms include nausea, vomiting, dizziness, drowsiness, black or bloody stools, coughing up blood, fever, less urination or nil urination, shallow breathing, fainting, seizures (convulsions), coma, etc.
Drug Interaction
Drugs like ibuprofen, naproxen, should not be taken along with Movatec. It aggravates the side effects of Movatec like stomach upset, nausea, ulcers, etc. Counter medications for the same ailment or other ailments also, should not be taken along with Movatec.
Precautions
In some patients, Movatec might cause dizziness, drowsiness, and persons who are taking Movatec for the first time should not indulge in activities like, driving, using machinery, etc, that requires alertness. In some cases the medication can also lead stomach bleeding and the situation worsens if the medication is taken when you are drunk or if you are smoking. Movatec also makes you sun sensitive.
The role of Movatec in pregnant women has not been studied extensively and Movatec should not be used in the first and second trimester in pregnant mothers. Movatec is suspected to cause birth defects ductus arteriosis in the third trimester of pregnancy. Movatec also should be avoided during the last trimester, as well. No studies are done to detect the presence of Movatec in breast milk.
Drug Storage
Movatec is stored at temperatures between 15 to 30 degree Celsius, or optimally at 25 degree Celsius away from direct heat and moisture. The medicines should be stored away from children and pets.
