Drug Action
Mesulid is a preferential inhibitor of COX-2 enzymes and it also has a multi faceted drug action that affects the action of metelloprotease and other biochemical markers of joint destruction. Mesulid reduces the release of reactive oxygen species and other toxic materials from the neutrophils and simultaneously reduces the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines. Mesulid has a rapid onset of analgesic function. These unique characters of the drug make it selective for the treatment of acute pains. The therapeutic action of Mesulid is the result of these actions.
Mesulid also has specific mode of action. The sulphonanilide analogue is not related to conventional NSAID’s. Mesulid is a safe and effective choice for treating a wide range of inflammatory and painful conditions like osteoarthritis, extra-articular disorders like tendinitis, bursitis, post-operative pain, and primary dysmenorrhoea.
In addition to these functions, Mesulid also acts s a scavenger to free radicals and also interferes with the production of free oxygen radicals by leucocytes without stopping leukocyte chemotaxis and phagocytosis. Mesulid also helps to protect against the tissue damage caused due to inflammation and inflammatory short circuits. In this manner, Mesulid offers anti inflammatory properties in vivo.
Mesulid also provides relief from pain and symptoms of inflammations associated with a variety of disorders. Mesulid is especially helpful for patients who show little or no response to NSAID drugs.
Drug Administration
The recommended dosage of Mesulid for adults over the age of 14 is 100 mg twice daily along with plenty of fluids. Mesulid is administered after meals.
