Famvir dosing for genital herpes
The dose of Famvir for genital herpes depends on whether you are using Famvir to treat or prevent outbreaks:
* Outbreak Treatment: For treatment of an outbreak of genital herpes, the dose of Famvir is 1000 mg twice daily for one day, starting at the very first signs of an outbreak. The earlier it is started, the better it works.
* Genital Herpes Suppression: For preventing future outbreaks of genital herpes, the recommended dose of Famvir is 250 mg twice daily for up to one year. After one year, you should visit your healthcare provider to decide whether or not to continue Famvir.
Famvir dosing for cold sores
The recommended Famvir dose for treating cold sores is a single dose of Famvir 1500 mg at the first signs of a cold sore.
Famvir dosing for People With HIV
The recommended Famvir dose for people with HIV for treating cold sores or genital herpes is Famvir 500 mg twice daily for seven days.
