Etanercept - Enbrel is used to treat rheumatoid arthritis. It is also used to treat psoriatic arthritis, active ankylosing spondylitis, and psoriasis. Enbrel (etanercept) is the first in a new class of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) drugs known as biologic response modifiers or you can say, it is also known as BRM's or biologic agents.
Enbrel recommended dosage
Rheumatoid Arthritis, Ankylosing Spondylitis, and Psoriatic Arthritis
The dosage of Enbrel for these conditions in adults is Enbrel 50 mg per week. This can be given as a single injection or divided into two 25 mg injections given three or four days apart.
Plaque Psoriasis
The dose of Enbrel for plaque psoriasis is Enbrel 50 mg twice a week (three or four days apart) for the first three months, followed by Enbrel 50 mg once a week. Also, lower starting doses (25 or 50 mg per week) have also been shown to be effective.
Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis
For children and teens (age 4 to 17) with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, the Enbrel dose varies according to weight. The dose is 0.8 mg per kg per week (a little less than 0.4 mg per pound per week), up to 50 mg per week.
