Caverject is used for treating erectile dysfunctions in males.

Caverject functions by relaxing the penis muscles and widens the blood vessels, which increases the flow of blood to the penis region. This flushing of the blood helps in penis erection and the effect of the drug wanes away once the concentration of the drug in the blood falls and the penis returns to normal state.

Caverject should not be used if you are allergic to one or many ingredients in the drug composition. Caverject also should not be used if you have any blood related diseases like sickle cell anemia, sickle cell trait, leukemia, etc. Also, patients suffering from bone marrow problems like multiple myeloma and other conditions leading to prolonged painful errection. Patients who have undergone penile implants, deformed penis, and other problems related to penis like peyronie disease, penal fibrosis, should refrain from using Caverject.

Pregnant or mothers planning for pregnancy as well as breast feeding mothers should not use this drug as a medication for any other problems as well. Persons taking alternative medicines should consult the doctor before using Caverject. Persons suffering from food allergy for any kinds of foods should not use Caverject. Inflammation or infection in the penis, kidney and urinary problems, history of extended erection period interfere with the drug action. You also cannot administer caverject if take any other medicines for erectile problems. Other diseases like HIV, hepatitis, which are blood born, interfere with the results.

Drugs like alprostadil; anti-coagulants like warfarin, heparin interacts with caverject and increases the risk of bleeding. It is advisable to consult your physician before the start or stop of any mediation.

Caverject has to be used exactly as advised by your physician. The label also has to be checked for dosage instructions. In order to administer Caverject at home, get proper guidance from the health professional and follow the instructions correctly. The appearance of the injection is important. The injection should not be used if it appears cloudy, or if it contains some tiny particles or if it is discolored after mixing. The mixed injection should be used immediately and cannot be stored for future purpose. In case the needle breaks during the course of injection. Stop the injection and remove the broken needle. Contact the physician before using the injection next time. Each cadridge should be used one only. Expired cadridge should be thrown away. All the needles, syringes and the cadridge should be kept safely away from children and pets.

Caverject usually starts to work within 20 minutes after injection and errection lasts up to 1 hour. Only one dose should be administered at a time and not more than 3 doses should be injected per week. Caverject can be injected 20 minutes you plan for sexual activity. Some person may experience mild bleeding and slight pain at the sight of injection. Rare side effects like skin itching, hives, rashes, difficulty inbreathing, chest tightness, swelling of mouth, lips, tongue, etc, abnormal ejaculation, bleeding from the tip of penis, blood in urine, and change in the amount of urine, curving of erected penis, genital pain, and dizziness may occur. Painful, prolonged errection, redness, lumpiness, bleeding at the site of injection, swelling of leg veins, appearance of white patches and whitish discharge from the penis, penis discoloration, strange sensation are also seen in some cases.

In case of drug overdose, contact your nearest emergency care for flushing the excess drug from your body. Symptoms like pain in the penis, fainting, painful and extended errection, and lightheadedness are the indicators of Caverject over dose.

Caverject is stored in temperature between 15 to 30 degree Celsius, away from direct sunlight, moisture and dampness. Caverject should also not be stored in bathroom as well. Keep it away from children and pets.

Caverject isn’t meant to be shared with other patients and contact your doctor if you still have any persistent doubts about the drug formulation, dose, etc. If the symptoms of the side effects do not wane then contact doctor immediately.
