Caverject dosage to treat erectile dysfunction

Caverject - Alprostadil belongs to a class of medications known as prostaglandins. Prostaglandins like alprostadil cause increased blood flow to certain areas of the body by causing the blood vessels in the area to widen. In particular, an alprostadil injection causes increased blood flow to the penis. It allows more blood to flow into the penis and produce an erection. This makes the medication useful for treatment of erectile dysfunction (also known as male impotence). The goal is to achieve erections that last up to one hour.

Many things can affect the dose and schedule of medication that a person needs, such as body weight, other medical conditions, and other medications. Caverject is injected into a specific area of the penis and produces an erection within 5 to 20 minutes. Do not use Caverject more than 3 times a week. Wait at least 24 hours between use.

Different people need different amounts of Caverject to treat erectile dysfunction. Your doctor will advise on the right dose for you and monitor you regularly to check how it is working. The starting dose is 1.25 - 2.5 micrograms. Most men find that a dose of 5 - 20 micrograms is right for them, however, some men may require a higher dose. You should never use more than 60 micrograms. If Caverject is being used to find the reason for your erectile dysfunction, the dose will be 5 - 20 micrograms.
