Arimidex is mainly used for the treatment of breast cancer in women who have undergone menopause and also treats women who have slow disease progression after tamoxifen treatment. Arimidex is an aromatase inhibitor that works by lowering the estradiol concentration in the blood, which in turn reduces the development of tumor cells.
Arimidex Precautions
Arimidex cannot be used if you are allergic tone or more ingredients of the drug. Arimidex also cannot be used if you are under tamoxifen or estrogen treatment.
Checklists
Certain medical conditions interfere with the functioning of Arimidex. It is wise to inform your doctor if any of the cases applies to you. Pregnant and mothers planning to get pregnant cannot use Arimidex. Additionally, if you are taking any alternative medicines, or if you suffer from food allergy or any drug allergy, you cannot use Arimidex. Persons suffering from liver problem and high cholesterol and lipid problems are not suppose to use Arimidex.
Drug Interactions
Certain drug interacts with Arimidex and lowers its potency. Drugs like estrogen and tamoxifen reduces the efficacy of Arimidex. In addition, Arimidex also interacts with other drugs also, which you can confirm with your physicist while drug prescription.
Drug Administration
Arimidex should be administered exactly as directed by the physician. Arimidex can be taken along with or without food.
Missing a Dose
In case if you happen to miss dose try to consume it as early as possible. If the doses of both the times clash, then it is recommended to miss the previous dose. Two doses cannot be taken together at one time.
Safety Information
In some cases Arimidex can cause dizziness, and the effect can be worsened if the person was drunk or taken along with other medications. It is also wise to stop doing any unsafe activity or hard task while you are under the treatment. Certain tests like blood cholesterol level, bone mineral density, should be performed while you are undertaking the treatment. These tests are important to monitor your health while you are under the treatment. The drug should not be used among children.
Pregnant and breast feeding mothers
Pregnant and breast feeding mothers are not recommended touse the drug as Arimidex is proved to harm the fetus. It is not known if aramidex is passed through the breast milk to the baby while breast feeding. However, it is recommended that you discuss with the physician if you are breast feeding.
Side Effects of Arimidex
Some of the rare side effects include anxiety, aches in back, breast, joints, pelvis, constipation, cough, diarrhea, flu symptoms, dizziness, hot flash, loss of appetite, nausea, numbness of the skin, insomnia, stomach pain, sweating, and dryness in vagina, vomiting sensation, weakness, and increase in body weight.
Some persons also can experience skin reactions like hives, rashes, chest tightness, swelling of mouth, tongue, lips, fracture of bones, pain in calf region, depression, frequent and painful urination, breath shortness, bleeding in vagina, vaginal discharges, changes in speech, vision etc.
Arimidex Over Dose
In case of drug over dose, contact your nearest emergency ward for disposing drug away from the body.
Arimidex Storage
Arimidex is stored at temperature between 20 to 25 degree Celsius in a tight closed container. The drug must be protected from direct heat, light and moisture. Do not store the drug in bathroom and keep away from children and pets.
General Precautions
Arimidex is not meant to be shared with other patients and contact your doctor if you still have any persistent doubts about the drug formulation, dose, etc. If the symptoms of the side effects does not reduces contact doctor immediately.
