Amoxil belongs to penicillin class of drugs that fights against the bacteria in the body. Amoxil is used for treating different infections like tonsillitis, pneumonia, ear infections, bronchitis, urinary tract infections, gonorrhea, and other skin infections.
Drug Administration
Amoxil has to be taken exactly as directed by the physician and has to be taken at even intervals both in day and night so that the body has optimum concentration of the drug to fight infection. Amoxil can be taken with or without food. Amoxil comes in the form of non chewable tablets and capsules that have to be swallowed with a whole glass of water.
Missed Dose
In case if you happen to miss a dose, do not have both the doses together. If the dosage clashes, it is better to avoid the previous dose and continue with the current dose. It is also better to consult your physician in case of any doubts regarding the dosage amount.
Drug Overdose
In case of drug overdose contact your nearest emergency care center.
Precautions
It is wise to discuss with the doctor if you suffer from one or many of the following cases:
Amoxil should not be taken if you are allergic to one or more ingredients of the drug including penicillin, cephalosporin.
Inform your doctor if you suffer from any kidney infection or stomach or intestinal disorder before prescribing Amoxil.
Amoxil belongs to category B in FDA pregnancy, which means that the drug is not harmful to the fetus and is considered safe during pregnancy. However, do not take the drug without consulting the physician.
Amoxilin also passes through the breast milk. Hence, consult doctor if you are breast feeding.
Safety Information
It is recommended contacting doctor if you experience chronic bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramps, during the amoxilin treatment.
Amoxil should be completed for the full course, if you feel better after a few doses of the drug.

- Neomycin
- Probenecid
Amoxil Side Effects
Some of the side effects of Amoxil include:
- Allergic reactions like shortness of breath; closing of the throat, hives, swelling of the lips, face, or tongue, rashes or fainting
- Seizures
- Unusual bleeding or bruising
Other, less serious side effects include:
- Mild nausea
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Abdominal pain
- White patches on the tongue (thrush/ yeast infection)
- Itching
- Vaginal discharge
- Black, hairy tongue
- Sore mouth or tongue
Drug Storage
Amoxil can be stored at 20 to 25 degree Celsius away from heat, moisture, light, children and pets. Amoxil is not intended for bathroom storage.
