Isotritinoin is a potent drug for treating acne. Prolonged Isotritinoin treatment leads to complete eradication of acne unlike other antibiotics which stops the prevention of acne after stopping the treatment.
Side Effects of Accutane (isotritinoin)
Accutane also has some immediate side effects like chapped lips, skin dryness, itching, which is not of much medical significance. Consuming alpha hydroxides along with the drug prevents these side effects. Nose dryness, nose bleeding, and irritation of eye lids can be prevented by consuming 400 IU of vitamin E along with Accutane. Temporary thinning of hairs, skin rashes, intestinal dysfunctions, urinary tract dysfunctions, head ache, proneness to sunburns, decreased night vision, depression are some of the side effects that are seen rarely and differs from person to person.
Precautions
There are cases when Accutane increase the blood fat level to dangerous levels. The drug also affects the liver function in extreme dosage amounts. Accutane also should not be taken by pregnant mothers as Isotritinoin is known to cause birth defects to the in born baby. Women planning to become pregnant should not administer the drug. For those who are planning for pregnancy should not attempt for pregnancy for at least three month after the completion of isotritinoin course. The drug, however is not identifies for creating the mentioned hazards in men except night sight blurredness. Sometimes, Accutane can cause mild headaches. It is wise to contact the doctor upon consistent headaches.
Mode of Action of Isotritinoin
The drug functions by decreasing the amount of oil produced by sebaceous gland and it takes minimum two months to see visible results. Isotritinoin also suppresses the production of skins that blocks the skin pores which results in reduction of black heads or white heads. The decreased levels of comedons causes decrease in the occurrence of pus filled cells or acne. Isotritinoin also reduces the inflammation reaction in the skin, although the clinical significance is yet unknown.

Accutane (Isotritinoin) is not ideal medication for permanent acne cure. It completely rids acne but the result lasts only for a few years. In rare cases, acne reappears after some years.

Mild peeling or chapping of the skin is seen since the onset of treatment, which will eventually disappear once the treatment gets over. Prior to starting the Isotritinoin course, inform your physicist of any problems related to the functioning of your liver, increase in fat content in the blood, family history of depression, etc so that the doctor can plan your dose accordingly. Complete blood count is performed during the treatment and should be intermittently assesses during the course of infection to avoid any hazardous side effects.
